Citizenship by investment is a program for obtaining a passport in another state by investing in its economy.
The first such program was launched by the small island state of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean Sea in 1984. Now this is not so rare, but countries are more willing to issue a residence permit for investments.
And where can I get citizenship for investment now? In Grenada and Dominica, there is also a choice for obtaining citizenship – either buying real estate, or a contribution. In Vanuatu, the only way to get a passport is to make a contribution of at least 130 thousand dollars to a special state fund.
In another island country – Saint Lucia-to obtain citizenship, you need to invest in real estate, business or government bonds. Or make a donation to the national fund.
In other countries, the price for obtaining citizenship is much higher. In Turkey, you need to invest at least 250 thousand dollars in the purchase of real estate or government bonds. Or you can invest in a business that will create at least 100 jobs. Citizenship for investment in Cambodia will cost a similar amount.
In Jordan, citizenship will be granted to foreigners who have invested at least 750 thousand dollars. It is necessary to place an interest-free deposit with the central bank, buy government bonds or securities of companies, or invest in small and medium-sized businesses, or register an investment project in the field of production.
From European countries, citizenship for investment can be obtained in Montenegro. It is necessary to invest at least 350 thousand euros in government projects or a fund. In Malta, in order to obtain a passport, an investor must make a contribution to the development and social security fund – at least 738 thousand euros. A residence permit in this country will cost almost 7 times cheaper.
In Austria, there is no minimum amount of investment for obtaining citizenship – the government determines it on an individual basis. An investor should invest money in industry with the creation of jobs or in the field of education, culture and sports. In Austria, they also give a residence permit for investment.
Other countries offer investors only a residence permit, not citizenship. This opportunity can be used in Portugal (you need to invest at least 200 thousand euros), Italy and Greece (at least 250 thousand euros), Spain and Ireland (at least half a million euros), Cyprus (at least 300 thousand euros), Bulgaria (at least 512 thousand euros), Switzerland (at least 250 thousand francs).
The United States requires an investor to invest at least 900 thousand dollars in a new commercial company in order to obtain a residence permit. In Dubai, you need to invest at least 5 million dirhams in real estate or a new company, or place funds on a deposit.
